Tasks

Within the working area The Netherlands Coastguard is responsible for the following 14 tasks:

Service Tasks:
- Distress, Urgency and Safety Radio traffic.
- Maritime assistance and Search and Rescue (SAR) operatons.
- Limiting and dealing with the aftermath of disasters and incidents.
- Vessel Traffic Services (VTS).
- Aids to navigation.
- Maritime traffic research.
- Clearing out explosives

Maritime Law Enforcement Tasks:
- Maintaining law and order (police).
- Monitoring import, export & transit of goods (customs).
- Upholding environmental laws.
- Upholding the laws regarding sea fishing.
- Upholding the laws regarding nautical traffic.
- Upholding the laws regarding ship's equipment.
- Upholding the laws regarding offshore activities in the North Sea
- Border control.
